For organizations that offer rolling memberships (rather than a fixed membership year) and want to ensure that members pay for any past due period when renewing, MembershipWorks now offers a new option for managing such renewals.
By default MembershipWorks will reset the renewal date for members who are past due when they renew, which maximizes revenue and reduces churn for the organization. But if you need to retain the member’s renewal anniversary date, you can enable a new setting to do so under the Past Due Charges section in the membership level Billing Management tab.
Do note that this only applies if:
- You use rolling memberships rather than a fixed membership year.
- Do not allow members to restart their membership when past due (ie. under Past Due Charges you must have selected the “Include past due period” option).
- The member is past due beyond the renewal period. The renewal period is calculated as the renewal period percentage multiplied by the number of days in the billing cycle (eg. 1 year is 365 days). Within the renewal period the renewal anniversary date is always retained.
- The member is not upgrading or downgrading their membership at the time of renewal (which includes adding/removing membership add-ons).
